About the J. Malon Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship 2024 Application: The J. Malon Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship program was created to further encourage and reward student involvement and leadership at A&M. The program’s name honours J. Malon Southerland ’65, former Texas A&M vice president for student affairs.
Unlike some scholarships, leadership and involvement will be the major decision-making factors. This award exemplifies Texas A&M University’s dedication to learning, leadership, and service within and outside the classroom.

Eligibility for the J. Malon Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship
- Scholarship programs require that a student maintain a minimum cumulative GPR and not be on conduct or honor code probation. Minimum cumulative GPR requirements are listed with each scholarship description.
- Dropping below a cumulative 2.0 GPR will result in the automatic suspension of a scholarship without a probationary semester.
- The first time a student’s cumulative GPR falls below the minimum required for the scholarship, the student will be placed on scholarship probation so long as the cumulative GPR is at or above 2.0. During the probationary semester, the student must regain the minimum cumulative GPR.
- The student will continue to receive the scholarship payment during the probationary semester as long as the other terms of the scholarship are met. - In the semesters following the student’s probationary semester, if the student’s cumulative GPR again fails to meet the minimum required for the scholarship, the student will be placed on scholarship suspension. These semesters do not need to be consecutive.
