Overview
The Zell Miller scholarship is a merit-based scholarship given to the residents of Georgia state. This scholarship is to assist students who do well academically with financial aid for their postsecondary education. The scholarship will cover the costs of attending a college or university within the state of Georgia.
Host schools
All public and private school in Georgia is eligible for the scholarship program. Public universities and colleges include:

Value/inclusions
Zell Miller Scholarship will pay 100% of the total cost charged for in-state tuition. This is a maximum of $10,258 per academic year of enrollment in 15 credit hours per term. The scholarship amount will be reduced if you enroll in fewer than 15 credit hours per semester, but will not increase if you enroll in more than 15 credit hours per semester.
For students enrolled in the Summer semester of their respective schools, the Zell Miller Scholarship will pay the summer tuition cost, as well as per credit hour. This is not included in the maximum mentioned above.
Requirements
To receive the Zell Miller scholarship, candidates will have to meet all HOPE Scholarship eligibility requirements, certain educational requirements, and residential requirements.
To be eligible, students will have to graduate from high school with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7, as calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), and an SAT score of 1200 or an ACT score of 26.
The basic HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship Eligibility Requirements are below:
- You must be a resident of the state of Georgia at the time you graduate high school. If not, you will have to wait for an additional 24 months before you reach the residency requirement.
- You must be a citizen of the United States or an eligible non-citizen to receive funding.
- You have to be enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
- You must be academically impressive.
- You must not be in default or owe any repayment on any federal or state aid.
- If you are a male student, you must be registered for Selective Service if required.
- You must comply with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990.
- The HOPE or Zell Miller scholarship is until you earn your first Bachelor’s degree, after that you are no longer eligible.
- The initial eligibility for the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships is determined by the Georgia Student Finance Commission.
After receiving the scholarship and starting school, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of greater than 3.30 to maintain the scholarship. There are checkpoints every 30, 60, and 90 hours, as well as in every spring semester. If your GPA is less than 3.30 at any of these checkpoints, you will lose your Zell Miller Scholarship. You can lose your scholarship at the Spring semester checkpoint, and can only regain eligibility at the 30, 60, and 90 attempted hours benchmarks. If you lose your eligibility at two checkpoints, you cannot regain eligibility.

How to apply
To be considered for the Zell Miller Scholarship, you must complete the Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid (GT App) and either the Georgia Student Financial Aid Application (GSFAPPS) or the FAFSA every year.
There are two ways to apply for the HOPE and the Zell Miller Scholarship. They are:
- By completing the Georgia Scholarship/Grant Application (GSFAPPS) at gafutures.org. Once this application has been completed, it will remain active for up to ten years.
- You can decide to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year instead.
It is recommended that all students complete the GSFAPPS even if they are completing the FAFSA so that there will always be an application on file. This is important because you must have an application on file by the last day of the semester to receive the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship for that semester.
Acceptance rate
All students who meet all the eligibility requirements and are attending any public or private university or college in Georgia will receive the Zell Miller Scholarship.

Deadline
The Zell Miller Scholarship application deadline for the 2024-2025 academic year is March 1, 2024. This is the same deadline for the HOPE Scholarship application.
Students should make sure to have an application submitted by the last day of the semester in which they are seeking the Zell Miller Scholarship.
If additional information is required of you, you must submit it within 15 days of request.
