About the PTDF Scholarship: The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) scholarship program seeks to promote indigenous human capital and petroleum technology to fulfill the needs of the oil and gas industry. Eligibility for the PTDF Scholarship
To be eligible for the scholarship, prospective participants satisfy the following:
For Masters
- A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree, or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with appropriate industry experience.
- Must have completed the obligatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
- Must be computer literate.
- Possession of five O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
- Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) outlining the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry, and the predicted influence on national development.
- Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must obtain a National Identity Number (NIN) and have it confirmed by NIMC (charges apply).

For Ph.D.
- Must have completed the obligatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
- Must be computer literate.
- Possession of five O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
- A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a solid postgraduate degree.
- A study proposal relevant to the oil and gas business (no more than five pages) should include the following: topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and technique of data collecting.
- All professors must provide a letter from their Vice Chancellors indicating that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships.

Step-by-Step Application Guide for the PTDF Scholarship
The Application Forms are available on the scholarship portal: scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng
Based on the submitted qualifications, the top applicants for each category from each state will be invited for an interview where a selection committee will be constituted to assess applications using the following criteria:
- Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, and other professional qualifications acquired
- Relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only)
- Membership in professional bodies
- The viability and relevance of the study/research plan.
- Relevance of previous studies to the oil and gas industry and the proposed course/research

Required Documents
Applicants should scan and upload the following documents to their online application forms:
- First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
- NYSC discharge certificate
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and the PINs on the application forms enable PTDF to view the O’level results on the relevant website.
- Recent Passport Photograph
- Local Government Identification Letter
- Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only)
- Evidence of membership in professional associations.
Kindly also note the following:
- The scholarship is for the 2024/2025 academic session.
- The scholarship is limited to PTDF-approved courses in PTDF partner institutions.
- Scholarships will only be awarded for studies relevant to PTDF’s mandate; candidates may be disqualified for applying for programs not relevant to the oil and gas industry.
- The proposed course of study must also be related to previous studies.
- Candidates with multiple applications will be disqualified.
- Candidates who have been sponsored by the Fund for a scholarship category (MSc/PhD) are ineligible to make another application for the same category.
