Eligibility for the Rhodes Scholarship

To qualify for the Rhodes Scholarship, candidates must meet all of the standards listed below:

  • Citizenship and residency: All applicants must meet the citizenship and residency requirements of the Rhodes constituency for which they are applying.
  • Educational requirements: All applicants must have completed an honors bachelor’s degree by October. Furthermore, academic status must be strong enough to get admission to the University of Oxford, which has extremely stringent admissions standards. In Canada, a minimum GPA of 3.75/4.0 or equivalent is required.
  • Age: Age limits vary in each constituency, ranging from 18 to 28 by October 1st of the year after selection. Most constituencies have an age limit of 24 or 25. Please carefully review the age restrictions for your constituency before applying. Successful students will come to Oxford in October, following the selection process. In most cases, the scholarship cannot be delayed.
  • Required language: English.
