Germany Tuition Free Universities and Scholarships for International Students

Foreign students seeking an international education now frequently travel to Germany. Compared to universities in the UK, USA, or Australia, German universities provide programs that are widely recognized for a relatively lower cost. Furthermore, a sizable number of scholarships are readily available, enabling international students to attend German universities for nothing.

Tuition-Free Colleges and Universities in Germany

As of October 2014, there will be no undergraduate tuition costs at any German universities. Universities may levy a semester contribution (about 50 euros) and/or administrative fees in some federal states (about 50 euros). This tuition fee structure may change in the future; for the most recent details on tuition costs in the various federal states of Germany, visit this page. For instance, the federal state of Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU citizens €1,500 per semester in tuition (for Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diploma, and state examination degree programs).

The majority of Master’s or PhD programs in Germany are fee-based, in contrast to undergraduate programs. In addition to the enrollment and confirmation fees, there are additional expenditures for postgraduate studies. Fortunately, there are several scholarships available in Germany for Masters and PhD education.

The scholarship is worth 300 euros a month and is available for at least two semesters, although it can last up to the length of the typical study period. DAAD Scholarship Programs

DAAD is a joint organisation of Germany’s higher education institutions and is responsible for promoting international academic relations, primarily through the exchange of students, academics and researchers.  The DAAD scholarship database contains scholarship and funding opportunities for foreign students, graduate students and scientists  who are seeking financial support for their studies, research work or teaching assignments in Germany. The database not only lists all the scholarships offered by the DAAD, but also diverse programmes offered by a wide variety of institutions.

The DAAD Scholarships for Development-related Postgraduate Courses is the most well-known DAAD scholarship program for students from poor nations. The DAAD Scholarships in Public Policy and Good Governance are another well-known illustration.
